Following the tragic loss of Max Blakeley, a Heart Screening Day has been organised at the club. To learn more and book your place, please read on.

With the heartbreaking and untimely passing of Max Blakeley, it has brought into sharp focus the risks we all potentially carry of living with undetected cardiovascular problems. One moment can change our lives and the lives of our loved ones forever.

Thiu Barnard, our Head Coach, working closely with the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund has organised a Cardiac Screening Day. This early detection of risk and preventative approach is something we think could make a difference to the lives of our players and our members and we have asked the sports' governing bodies to consider adopting this too. The screening process only takes around 15-20 minutes per person and specific slots will be allocated.

There are 100 spaces available on the day. Thirty of these have been allocated to Birkenshaw Blue Dogs RLFC, who Max was playing for when he fell ill and who have already done a brilliant job in marking his passing. Five places have been reserved for referees who have contacted Thiu about the screening. That means he has 65 spots available.

The screening session was aimed at players in the first instance but anyone can book a place and if there are slots available you will get screened. The only caveat is that due to reasons beyond our control, the screening is only open to people between the ages of 16 and 45. Please note, you can only be screened if you have booked a slot. The session is taking place for most of the day on Saturday 4th August and is run by specialist medical staff.

The Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund have made a massive contribution to funding the day, bringing the cost down from £60 per person to just £30. We are also trying to get additional sponsorship to bring the price you'll need to pay on the day, down even more. If you, your company or anyone you know would like to contribute to the cost of the screening day, please get in touch and we will make sure your contribution is duly appreciated and recognised.

To book your slot please contact Thiu on 07845 475206 or email him at thiub@yahoo.co.uk

This is a big opportunity to make a difference and you can listen to Thiu talk about it on Robbie Paul's show on Pulse Radio this Wednesday evening.

Let's do it for Max!
