Danny Vento then extended the advantage with a nicely timed run, which Ronan Evans converted to give a final score of 17-5. Cleckheaton claimed back the John Bower trophy which Huddersfiled YMCA have won for the last 3 seasons.

There were some very encouraging signs with Cleckheaton's defensive effort being excellent for early season and the match tempo being maintained throughout. The game also provided an opportunity to have a look at some of Cleckheaton's younger players in the latter stages of the match, who all did themselves proud.
