Let’s Get Ready To Rumble
Fantastic attitude and sportsmanship
Cleckheaton hosted Baildon on Sunday and produced a very competitive and evenly fought match, although Cleckheaton’s finishing was more clinical in one of their best displays to date. The first try went to Baildon after some excellent and strong running breaking through the Cleckheaton defence. Cleckheaton quickly bounced back with a weaving try (one of many) from player of the match William Wilkinson. Resolute defending from Connor Holden (100% effort) and Alec Manby and excellent counter rucking from William Nicholson who turned over the ball on several occasions and this allowed further pressure on Baildon’s defensive line.
Angled interchange passing between Sam Nolan and Declan Wilson was sublime which created space for Alfie Davison to finish off one of the best tries of the match leading Cleckheaton into a 5-3 lead at the break.
In the second half, Cleckheaton extended their lead from a fantastic arched run from Thomas King. Baildon however bounced back with some excellent crash ball and offloads and one occasion, the power houses of both sides crashed causing the ground to rumble such was the intensity.
George Nelson seemed to grow in confidence with every minute on the pitch and Cleckheaton were defensively organised and passed the ball in open play much more to keep the game alive in comparison to previous games. Cleckheaton coming out the victors 10-5. Overall it was an excellent game to watch and both teams played with a [b]fantastic attitude and sportsmanship.
