Inspirational at Ilkley

Resolute & excellent performance

Cleckheaton U10’s travelled to Ilkley RUFC in what was a very competitive and evenly fought match, although Cleckheaton’s finishing was more clinical in one of their best displays to date. The first try went to Ilkley after some excellent and strong running breaking through the Cleckheaton defence. Cleckheaton quickly bounced back with quick hands down the line passing to Jayden Cuffe (player of the match) who scored his first of many tries with a bamboozling weaving try.
Cleckheaton needed to tighten their defence up as Ilkley were managing to bust through but Alfie Davidson (100% effort) was having his best defensive display to date covering behind the line. Declan Wilson ripped the ball, one on one, on several occasions with one play springing to mind where there was a fantastic offload by George Nelson to Sam Nolan whose powerful run led to another Cleckheaton try.
At the break, Cleckheaton led 3-5 and after some excellent offloads, Ilkley got the next try. Cleckheaton needed to be resolute and this seemed to inspire Connor Holden and Tom Wassell who produced some brilliant tackles to keep Ilkley at bay.
Excellent line busting running by William Nicholson put further pressure on Ilkley’s defence opening gaps for Cleckheaton to extend their lead. However, Ilkley bounced back and scored to make the match 6-7 which proved to be the final score.
Angled interchange passing was sublime which created space for Sam Jackson who thought he was in to finish off Ilkley. Unfortunately, only to be brought back by the referee who had fairly blown for an injured player.
An excellent performance by both sides resulting in a great win for Cleckheaton.
