Westoe’s new fly-half Sam Rasche put’s Cleckheaton to the sword on a wet and windy afternoon in which Cleckheaton were three players down.

An early drive from the powerful Westoe pack on the down hill slope had Cleck under pressure from the word go and within 3 mins had a pushover try in the corner, Rasche converting from out wide, Cleck looked like they were going to pull points back with the backs into Westoe’s 22 only for the loose pass let Westoe back in and with Cleck having to defend the strong West pack soon had Keith Woods over the line, Rasche converted on 15 mins.

With Cleck under pressure poor defence let David Haswell in for an easy try 3 mins later, Rasche again converting. With Rasche using the cross field wind to the full and the back up of a quick group of backs Westoe were in control, but against this Cleck managed to get into there 22 only for the ball to go to ground again and with West on the brake and what looked like 2 forward pass’s Mark Olugbodie went in for a try, Rasche again converting on 24 mins.

With Cleck again under pressure in there 22 Adam Falkner was able to take the West defence by surprise and run 30 mts before the lack of support let West regroup and defend there line. Late on in the half with Cleck again under the cosh West had a push over try under the posts, and yes that man Rasche converted.

The 2nd half started much like the 1st with Cleck having to defend from the start, but some strong work from the team kept West at bay and at times looked like they would score, but it was still that man Rasche with his kicking that kept pushing Cleck back and in the 60th min West’s pack pushed over again and Rasche converted.

To there credit Cleck’s forwards battled hard against the strong Westoe pack with Mark Sergeant and one or two others having a good game, but to finish off poor afternoon for both team and supporters Westoes Woods went in for a try after what looked like a forward pass in the dying mins of the game, Haswell’s kick going wide.
