Former Cleckheaton winger Simon Bradshaw picked up 20 points as Morley gained sweet revenge for their defeat at Moorend in December. Ironically, former Morley stand off David Evans was given first chance to put points on the board for Cleck but his 5th minute penalty effort was off target. It was Bradshaw himself who opened Morley's account with a breakaway try after Cleckheaton's backs lost possession just inside the Morley half.
Cleck hit back when the forwards drove the ball to within 10 metres of the Morley line. Good transference of the ball enabled player coach Doug Trivella to dive over for the try. The conversion was missed by David Evans.
In a very inauspicious first half dominated by the windy conditions and the referee, Morley added a further try by Michael Ash and a yellow card for another ex-Cleck player Alan Benn. Richard Piper balanced the card tally on the stroke of half time.
The second half reflected the story of 2009 so far. Three further tries for Morley from Kobi Gyasi, Craig Field and Simon Bradshaw plus three Bradshaw penalties emphasised the contrasting confidece levels of the two sides. To be fair Cleckheaton showed improved form in this game. Carl Mason, playing in his first full game of the season made his point quite emphatically and David Evans and Matt Piper showed good touches both in attack and defence.
No game Saturday and the final league game is at Sheffield Tigers on 18th of April.
Cleckheaton were given a bye into the next round of the Yorkshire Cup when first round opponents Rotherham pulled out of their commitment to play on Monday evening. A sign of the times when clubs of their stature and past holders of the famous old trophy, pull out at the last minute leaving their opponents to count the cost of a lost home match and all the revenue that implies.
