The first score came in the 13th min to Huddersfield after early pressure from them with a Chris Johnson penalty; Cleckheaton replied 4 mins later with one from Johnny West.
With both side unable to play flowing rugby the game started to frustrate both teams and in the 22 min Cleckheaton's Danny Pilkington was the first of 3 players to be sin-binned for going over the top.
Cleckheaton defended well and weathered the storm with a man down, but the half continued to be littered with penalties and at half time the score remained 3-3.
The 2nd half started with both side again trading penalties early on to make the score 6 all and with Cleckheaton's John Dudley being binned. Johnson put Huddersfield in front in the 52nd min with a penalty; he increased this with another 5 mins later from a drop goal. Cleckheaton again weathered the storm and pulled 3 pts back with a West penalty on 58 mins.
In the 68th min it was Huddersfields turn to have a man binned when Johnson was sent off for 10 mins, West drew the score’s level in the 72 min, but with the game in it’s dying mins and what looked like a fair result that man Johnson stepped up to give Hudderfield the result with another drop goal from the 22.
Cleckheaton mounted a late attack and got within 10 mtrs of the Huddersfield line only for the ball to go dead.
