The game started badly for Cleckheaton when Huddersfield ran in 2 ties in the first 4 mins from Hamish Pratt and Mark Whitehead, Chris Johnson converting both. Cleckheaton realised they had a game on there hands and were soon into the 22 and from a catch and drive Reese Moon went in the corner for a try, Ross Hayden’s kick landing short on 14 mins.
Huddersfield replied 3 mins later with a try and conversion from Johnson, but with Cleckheaton coming more into the game they were unlucky not to score after bullying Huddersfield about in the scrum, but a penalty to Huddersfield pushed them further in front until the 34th min when a long kick had full back Rob McLaren fumbling about for the ball which Martin Woodhead won, passed into Lance Hamilton to score, Hayden’s long kick this time going over. Cleckheaton had to battle on late in the half in defence.
Thing’s again started badly for Cleckheaton with some poor defence letting in Whitehead for a try, Johnson converting on 45 mins, but some strong defending by Hayden kept him out 5 mins later.
A 54th min penalty put Huddersfield further in front, but Cleckheaton kept there heads and were rewarded 54 mins later with a cross field try from Woodhead in the corner, Haydens kick again just short.
Late on in the game Cleckheaton started to tier and Huddersfield ran in tries from Johnson, and 2 from Tim Collins, Johnson also converted 2, but the way Cleckheaton young players played and only bode well for the rest of the season.
