Kestrels secure a huge win

Kestrels entertained Doncaster Phoenix this afternoon in what was a huge game for both teams. Phoenix only defeat came at the hands of the Kestrels back in October , while Kestrels had 9 wins and 2 draws and no defeats this season.
Kestrels were on the board after 7 minutes , a Phoenix scrum was won against the head and Tom Breakwell fed Sam Womersley who sliced his way across the line, he added the goal 7-0.
On 18 minutes, good work by Sam Cheney freed Braden Hunter who gave a scoring pass to Eliot Whetham, Womersley adding the goal 14-0. When Kestrels conceded 2 quick penalties, Phoenix spread the ball across the field and touched down in the right corner, conversion was missed 14-5. Kestrels added a 3rd try on 33 minutes , Greg Colbridge was in acres of space on the left and went clear to score the 3rd try, Womersley again added the goal 21-5 , which was the score at half time.
Into the 2nd half and Phoenix were reduced to 14 men after incurring the wrath of the merry whistle blower who showed the Yellow Card.
Kestrels piled on the pressure and on 50 minutes, Josh Clough won line out ball , Lewis Beasty threw a flat pass to Womersley who powered to the try line, again adding the goal, 28-5. Kestrels got a 5th try when a Kestrels attack was held up short of the line but Braden Hunter dug the ball out and dived over on the blindside, Womersley missed the conversion but 33-5 and Kestrels were in total control. 5 minutes later, the forwards got in try scoring mode, Josh Clough crossing for the 6th try, Womersley got the radar correct and slotted the conversion 40-5. Phoenix made a rare visit to the opposition half and were rewarded with a try on 64 minutes, conversion was good 40-12. Kestrels had scored some great tries but try number 7 had quality , Steve Noble made ground down the left , he had players left and right and Henry Iwanjeko was on hand to touch down, Womersley adding the goal to take the score to 47-12 and his personal tally to an impressive 22 points. Kestrels were looking thoroughly dispirited and Harry Sutcliffe added a pair of tries wide on the right , 57-12.
Phoenix weren't done, they tried very hard to get across the whitewash and on 79 minutes , they emerged from a ruck with try wide on the left which was unconverted 57-17 and most thought time was up, the referee ordered the kick off to be taken and Phoenix returned the ball with interest, eventually touching down under the posts for a converted try, this time the Referee decided enough was enough and a final score of Kestrels 57 Phoenix 24 was in the book. Kestrels still undefeated and extending the lead at the top of the table.
