Kestrels too strong for Stags

Unbeaten Kestrels welcomed Keighley Stags to Moorend this afternoon and came away with another bonus point win in a feisty encounter.
The early exchanges were fairly even, Kestrels tried to run the ball at every opportunity, while Stags were content to kick the ball downfield to try and force an error.
Kestrels opened the scoring on 18 minutes, prop Wade Laycock made a charging run, Beasty recycled and found Rich Noble who crossed for the try , goaled by Sam Womersley 7-0.
Stags struck on 23 minutes with a try from a driving maul, this was unconverted 7-5. On 23 minutes Hallas replaced Etchells.
On 35 minutes, Stags had a scrum but Kestrels disrupted and Beasty was first to react , he was held short of the line but second row Henry Iwanjeko got the ball out and drove over the line, Womersley converted 14-5. On 37 minutes , Rich Noble launched a high kick that Stags couldn't control and eventually a wild kick to touch gave Kestrels the line out . Steve Noble won the ball , there were charges to the line by Hallas, Laycock, Clark and Denham before the ball went wide to Harry Sutcliffe who was brought down short of the line but Iwanjeko forced his was over for his second try of the game, Womersley added the extras and approaching half time , Kestrels had a useful 21-5 lead.
At half time Chris Piper and Ben Etchells replaced Hallas and Denham.
On 43 minutes Stags number 18 was penalised for a high tackle, Josh Clough retaliated , the penalty was reversed and both players were sent to the naughty step for 10 minutes.
On 51 minutes, Stags kicked ahead and re-gathered the ball, after 3 phases , Stags crossed for their second try which was converted 21-12.
Logan Senior replaced Harry Sutcliffe and Niall Jackson took over from Chris Piper on 63 minutes. Will Denham came back on for Wade Laycock. The next score went to Kestrels in a comedy of errors, a loose ball was bouncing around like a pinball , the ever alert Henry Iwanjeko pounced and powered away from the 22 to complete a hat trick of tries for the second row. Womersley added another goal 28-12 after 73 minutes.
There was a bout of unpleasantness on 78 minutes, it stemmed from winger Veron Dhesi being floored in a no arms tackle and a penalty being awarded. Ollie Clark and Stags 18 had a coming together and a huge punch up developed involving most of the forwards. When the dust had settled, Stags 18 was shown a Yellow card for the second time which meant he was sent off and Ollie Clark saw the Red Card at the same time.
The final act of the game saw Sam Womersley break the line and make 30 metres , he had Dom Howarth on his shoulder and timed his pass perfectly for the centre to cross for the Kestrels 5th try, Womersley adding the goal for a perfect kicking day , 35-12 the final score and Kestrels unbeaten run continues.
