The u13’s travelled across the border to Oldham for their first games of the new season against both Oldham and Bolton. Cleck had never faced either side so were eager to start the season and take on new challenges. We took on Oldham first who were a large well drilled physical side but Cleck competed well. After conceding a try, a well worked passage of play allowed Maxwell to break free and level the scores. The teams traded tries again, Maxwell kicking to the corner gave Ben the opportunity to gather and finish neatly. This passage of play was also recognised as the day's Magic Moment. Oldham broke for 2 more tries after injuries to two key Cleck players; final score Oldham 20, Cleck 10.
After a quick turnaround Cleck faced a fresh Bolton side. The boys competed well but were soon a couple of scores down. Aidan finished a neat move on the back of a good scrum, then broke from inside our own half to get his second. The teams were very well matched and Cleck showed real character to not give up. Their patience and effort was rewarded when Ted scored in the last play of the game to grab a well deserved draw 15-15.
A very entertaining morning of rugby. Lots of positives from Cleck as they adapted well to the larger pitch space this season and their first competitive scrums went well.
Captain's choice went to Ben.
Man of the match was Hugo
Well done everyone!
