Cleckheaton U12’s Boys welcomed West Park (Leeds) at The Pavilion on a gloriously sunny Sunday morning for their opening fixture of the season.
This was the first meeting between the two sides and it made for cagey opening exchange. Whilst Cleckheaton had the majority of the ball in the first half, West Park were resolute in defence allowing very little forward momentum and their counter rooking proved very effective. They caught Cleckheaton on the break, running in a couple of tries by their speedy wingers who were a thorn in the side of Cleckheaton all game.
Cleckheaton’s moment of the game came towards the end of the first half when Seb Hunter-Paul caught the ball from a defensive clearance at full back and ran 30meters untouched to score fantastic try in the right hand corner.
The home team were much better in the second half, more physical in the breakdown and strong forward play breaking through the defensive line, coupled with moving the ball brilliantly through the backline. West Park ultimately found themselves stretched and The Lambs were able to capitalise scoring some good team tries.
All in all it was an excellent game played in good spirits by two good sides. Some of the rugby played by both sides was a real pleasure to watch.
Cleckheaton won the bragging rights on this occasion scoring 14 tries to West Park’s 4. A great start for The Lambs U12’s, lots of positives and lots of things to build on.
