Team spirit wins out again....

The U13's girls team travelled to Bradford Salem today, a little unsure about how many opposition teams and players would turn out for a festival aimed at new teams within our district.

To say we were all surprised by the numbers present would be an understatement. With sides from, Skipton, Baildon, Bradford Salem, North Ribblesdale and a combined Huddersfield YMCA/Lockwood team, there was plenty of rugby to be played by all.

All teams were rotated to play five games, with our girls winning 4 out of 5 and only losing to North Ribblesdale by 1 try - a fantastic achievement for a team that has only played together for such a short time.

Each and every Cleckheaton player showed improvement and great team spirit, winning almost every ruck and being able to rip the ball on many occasions from much larger opposition. Strong running and the ability to pass the ball down the line, meant our girls could run with the ball, showing great determination to overpower most attempts by the opposition to defend.

Tia displayed great skill and strength in running through the defensive line and finding space when it seemed impossible, Lily was fast on her feet as usual, and able to dance around the defence at every opportunity, causing them much confusion. Joely gave a superb all round team performance, showing her ability to attack and defend enabling her to compete with her bother's tally of tries that day, whilst Maisy had her best game yet, having grown in confidence and was able to display this when ripping the ball on several occasions from her opposing player. Pippa's ability to tackle anything saved many, many tries being scored by the opposition yet again. Sadly Meg and Natasha injured each other in a collision in the first few minutes and were unable to continue, which also no doubt will ruin their modelling careers this week but they stuck around to cheer on their team displaying great team spirit. The level of commitment during the games never fails to impress us all - watch out opposition teams - these girls certainly have the makings of a superb team, both on and off the pitch!!
