Cleckheaton completed the pre season programme with a solid performance but were outclassed by the visitors from Rossendale.
Both teams were committed from the start and there were some huge tackles being made in the early exchanges.
Rossendale took the lead when a short kick towards the left wing caught the defence out and the pacy winger got the touchdown, the conversion hit the post 0-5 on 4 minutes.
Cleckheaton secured some possession in midfield but were denied progress by the solid defensive efforts. Josh Plunkett and Niall Jackson carried the ball strongly but were unable to break through.
On 20 minutes Rossendale got a 2nd try with quick hands scoring under the posts and a simple conversion was added and the score was 0-12 .
Dale Breakwell produced a neat chip ahead which was touched in flight by a Rossendale forward but the bounce favoured Jack Marshall who sprinted 35 metres to score under the posts to get Cleckheaton on the board , Breakwell adding the extras 7-12 on 27 minutes which gave the healthy crowd something to cheer as half time arrived.
Into the second half on 50 minutes the visitors extended the lead after defensive mixup led to the ball being moved left for a third try, the conversion from a difficult angle was good , 7-19.
Cleckheaton got right back into contention with a fine try from Tom Ainsworth on debut who ran on to a flat pass from Breakwell to power over the line, Breakwell adding the goal 14-19 on 54 minutes.
6 minutes later a terrific break out by Rossendale scattered the home defense for a try under the posts which was converted, 14-26. On 68 minutes Rossendale repeated with another long range try under the posts which was converted off the upright 14-33.
The final score went to the visitors with a try wide on the left which gave the score a slightly lop sided look at 14-38 , but Cleckheaton acquitted themselves well against a team from a higher level.
The next game will be at Moorend with the return of Rugby in North One East on Saturday 4th September when Durham City will be the visitors, kick off will be at 3.00 p.m. , should be a great game, come down and give your team some encouragement!
