Cleckheaton retained the Fred Scott Trophy after a dominant first half performance in the annual Boxing Day game.
Cleckheaton fielded a mixture of 1st and 2nd team players and they were quickly on the board with a try by hooker Robin Bennett , goaled by Bailey Smith 7-0 . Tom Hainsworth added a 2nd on 15 minutes, bouncing off would be tackles, Smith added the goal, 14-0. 5 minutes later, Hainsworth bagged a second try after a kick to touch landed at Mike Hayward's feet , he picked up and beat his opposite number before giving the scoring pass, Smith goaled, 21-0. Tom Hainsworth completed his hat trick just before half time with an individual effort, this time the conversion was wide but 26-0 at half time.
With unlimited substitutions both sides changed personnel on a regular basis, the flow of tries didn't stop though, Richard Noble crossed for the 5th try, conversion was good 33-0.
Brodlieans got on the board with a try on 55 minutes after a driving maul, conversion was kicked 33-7. Cleckheaton could have have several more tries, butter fingers and cold hands prevented more tries. Brodlieans then added 2 more tries in the closing 10 minutes, this took the score to a final 33-21, plenty to keep the large crowd entertained.
