Cleckheaton got back on track with a convincing win over Paviors today. Team news saw Ben Thrower starting at Prop and Andy Piper drop to the bench along with Sam Cheney and Liam Goldthorpe.
Paviors made the better start and were on the board with a try by Flint, converted by George Billam 0-7 after 5 minutes.
Cleckheaton were awarded a penalty 10 metres out and took the scrum option, the scrum was put under pressure and Brad Marsden controlled the ball to score his 2nd try of the season, Dale Breakwell added the goal 7-7 after 10 minutes. Paviors couldn't make any progress out of defence and conceded a penalty which Dale Breakwell converted off the right hand post 10-7 after 17 minutes.
On 23 minutes following good work by Tom Breakwell down the blind side put Jack Marshall into space and he crossed for his 13th try of the season, Dale Breakwell added the goal 17-7 on 23 minutes. A rare breakout down the Stand side by Paviors saw a kick ahead deflected into Braden Hunter hands and he ran 60 metres for an opportunist try, his 5th of the season. Dale Breakwell added the conversion and Cleckheaton led 24-7.
On 30 minutes Ben Thrower was replaced by Liam Goldthorpe . On 38 minutes, after Brad Marsden won ball at the lineout, the maul rumbled on and Thiu Barnard crossed for his 2nd try of the season, Breakwell added the goal from near the touchline and at half time the score was Cleckheaton 31 Paviors 7.
Sam Cheney replaced Josh Plunkett at half time and Paviors had their best spell of the game. A long range counter attack by Paviors saw the move halted illegally and Sam Cheney was sent to the sinbin. Paviors took advantage of the extra man and outside half Billam got across for the try which he converted, 31-14. Robin Bennett was replaced by Ben Thrower on the hour and Cheney returned from the naughty step.
There were frequent stoppages in the 2nd period and it affected the flow of the game which wasn't helped by the persistent drizzle that was falling.
The next score came in an identical manner to the 4th try , line out ball won by Marsden and the pack drove over the line, thus time Thrower came up with the ball for his 1st try of the season, Breakwell struck the upright with the conversion, 36-14 after 69 minutes. The game was drifting to its conclusion when the Referee Adam Robson produced the Yellow Card again, this time for Dom Brambani on 78 minutes.
Final score Cleckheaton 36 Paviors 14, a good win against a team that hadn't won on the road this term. Cleckheaton MoM went jointly to Thiu Barnard and Dom Brambani.
