Cleckheaton dominate depleted West Hartlepool

Cleckheaton turned in their best performance of the season with a 9 try demolition of a spirited West Hartlepool.
Jack Seddon was omitted this week with a slight hamstring strain, Brad Marsden returned to play at open side flanker with Tom Austin moving to the Number 8 position.
The visitors kicked off and got their hands on the ball first but were penalised in a promising position. Dale Breakwell found touch from the penalty and with line out ball secured the backs got moving to the right corner, Wilson was stopped short but Ollie Depledge was on hand to wriggle over in the corner and Dale Breakwell added the extras from a difficult angle, 7-0. Cleckheaton added a second try almost immediately, the ball was moved left and a superb delayed pass put flanker Joey Carley in for a fine score , Breakwell converted 14-0. The home team were pegged back for a time inside their 22 with successive penalties, Matt Piper was given a team warning by the referee and Wests kicked a simple penalty on 19 minutes through scrum half Stu Waites 14-3. On 23 minutes Ollie Depledge made a great break but a magnificent tackle took him to ground and he was held up over the line. From the 5 metre scrum , Matt Piper was stood outside half and Dale Breakwell took a reverse pass from him to score under the posts which he improved to take the score out to 21-3. On 29 minutes, Jack Marshall got the ball deep inside his own 22 and combined with Depledge and Hayward to take the return pass on halfway and raced away for a fine try, Breakwell added the goal 28-3 and a try bonus point secured. Dale Breakwell got his 2nd try of the afternoon after Hayward , Marshall and second row Plunkett combined for a 5th try of the half, the conversion was wide but at half time it was 33-3.
It didnt take long for Cleckheaton to move the score along, less than a minute, Wests failed to secure the kick off and when Ben Thrower made a few metres down the middle the ball got to Hayward who put Marshall in for his second try kick was good , 40-3.
Hayward was on hand to pick up the ball after a huge tackle by Marsden in midfield saw the speedy winger cross for his 6th try of the season in the corner, the conversion was missed, 45-3.
As Cleckheaton were dominant , the bench was active as Rika-Rayne , Ben Dearing and Charlie Mcgovern all got some game time as Andy Piper, Matt Piper and Ben Thrower had a spell on the side lines.
Hayward sliced through the defence again on 65 minutes after good work by Wilson and Depledge for his 7th try of the season, Breakwell converted 52-3.
West Hartlepool crossed for a good try by centre Peter Youll who was a constant threat throughout on 72 minutes, conversion missed 52-8.
On 77 minutes , the visitors were penalised 10 metres out in front of the posts, Marsden took a tap penalty and the maul rumbled over the line with Ben Thrower controlling the movement, he touched down and Breakwell converted 59-8.
As time ran out West Hartlepool crossed for a second try by Stu Waites who also converted to give the final score Cleckheaton 59 West Hartlepool 15.
Dale Breakwell got a personal tally of 24 points with 2 tries and 7 conversions but the Cleckheaton man of the match went to Joey Carley for a strong all round performance.
Depleted Wests never gave up and deserved enormous credit for sticking to the task for the full 80 minutes.
Cleckheaton are on the road next week and face a tough encounter at York, kick off at 3:00 pm.
