Kestrels triumph at blustery Pocklington

Kestrels continued their winning ways with a battling performance in a friendly game away at Pocklington.
Playing against the elements in the first half the more experienced Kestrels dominated proceedings in the first half. They took the lead through a well worked try to wing Kieran Baldry, Ben Dearing failed with the conversion 0-5. Kestrels looked good with ball in hand and Pocklington rarely threatened the Kestrels line. The lead was extended on 21 minutes with a try from Harry Sutcliffe, this time Dearing was successful 0-12.
The only time in the first half that Pocklington gained a foothold inside the Kestrels 22 they managed to score a fine try through the replacement centre on 34 minutes, the kick was good and the score was 7-12. Kestrels then took advantage of a series of offences near the Pocklington line, from the 3rd penalty , Damien Pearson battered his way over the try line , kick missed 7-17 at half time.
The wind strengthened after half time and handling became more difficult. Richard Noble got on the end of a fine break from Eliott Whetham to score under the posts, converted by Dearing 7-24.
Pocklington got back into contention with 3 tries in a 13 minute spell, the first came from the full back , the second after the No.8 crashed over after a scrum and finally the centre went some 60 metres down the middle of the field for a great solo score. 22-24 with around 15 minutes to play. Almost from the restart, Pocklington conceded possession and when the ball was moved right , Kieran Baldry slid over in the corner for his second try of the game, kick missed 22-29. Pocklington scored next to the posts with their next attack and had the kick gone over, it would have been level at 29 -29, however the conversion went wide and with 2 minutes to play it was 27-29. Kestrels then put the game to bed with a fine score from Richard Noble who kept his terrific scoring record going by crossing for his 23rd try of the season, Eliott Whetham added the conversion as Dearing was confined to the naughty step and the referee blew to end the game with Kestrels running out 36 -27 victors. Back to league action next Saturday kick off at 1415, opposition is York 3s away at Clifton Park.
